About Melissa
A life shaped
by words.
Melissa M. Brown is a writer, educator, artist, and former creative entrepreneur whose work has long centered on words: how they look, what they mean, what they reveal, and what they leave unspoken.
Her creative life has included education and academic writing, teaching women in the study of Scripture, and more than twelve years as the owner and artist behind Calligraphia by Melissa. Whether working with ink on paper, teaching a text, or shaping a story, she is drawn to the ways words and beauty help us pay attention.
Now writing fiction, Melissa explores the distance between the lives people imagine and the lives they are actually given. Her Christian faith, rooted in the Reformed tradition, informs her interest in providence, memory, and the unexpected intersections of ordinary lives.
She lives in Florida with her husband, conductor and composer Stephen P. Brown.
Fiction
Summer of
Unspoken Words
A novel in progress
A summer in Spain. A mysterious letter. A young woman learning that love and life rarely follow the plans we make for them.
In her first novel, Melissa brings together friendship, romance, and the pull of an unanswered story, against the light and landscapes of Spain.
